Profile

Teaching-focused computing academic with more than 15 years of university teaching across Australia, the UAE and Iraq, including 11 years as Chief Examiner and Lecturer at Monash University. I lead large units of around 400 students and 10 tutors each, and have redesigned the curriculum and assessment of the units I teach from the ground up, most notably full-stack web development (FIT2095) and Android mobile development (FIT2081).

My teaching is grounded in industry practice: five years as a systems developer, a PhD in cloud computing, and current hands-on work across web, mobile, cloud and AI technologies. I am a graduate of the Monash Education Academy Teaching Excellence Program and bring a record of consistent, well-organised delivery across campuses and teaching teams.

Assistant Professor and Director, Center for Educational Technology

American University in the Emirates, Dubai, UAE

Directed the Center for Educational Technology, leading the university's adoption of technology in teaching and learning.
Taught Data Structures and Algorithms, Software Engineering, Object-Oriented Programming, Compiler Construction, Server Operating Systems, Network Essentials and IT Project Management.

Industry experience

2000 – 2005

Systems Developer

Gulf Bureau Company, Baghdad, Iraq

Designed and built distributed and centralised database systems for production, warehouse, archive and lending management.
Developed a knowledge management system for civil engineering and a Pascal compiler (lexical, syntax and semantic phases) in Prolog.
Delivered R&D projects in heuristic-search AI, mobile-node simulation (NS-2), context-aware query processing, marker-based augmented reality and image processing (steganography, watermarking, edge detection).
